Bullying
Phoebe Prince was a fifteen-year-old girl who came to America from Ireland. She was attending South Hadly High School in Massachusetts. When she arrived at her new school from Ireland, some students immediately bullied her at her school. They threw racial slurs at her and made fun of her on social networking websites. It escalated to the point where she could not handle the bullying anymore and she took her own life.
This situation did not only happen to Phoebe. One in seven kids has been a victim of bullying or the bully. Because of bullying, 160,000 kids miss school every day. Seventy one percent of kids report people bullying at their school. Fifty-six percent of all kids witnessed some type of bullying at school. Fifteen percent of all school absenteeism is directly related to bullying. Bullying is so bad in some areas that one out of twenty kids have seen another student with a gun at school. Are these numbers right?
